BREAKING: Houston Rockets Reportedly Trading For NBA Champion

According to Shams Charania and Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Houston Rockets are making a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.

UPDATEESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Patty Mills is being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

UPDATE: Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports that Patty Mills will not be staying with the Houston Rockets.

Via Iko: "Recently-acquired point guard Patty Mills is not staying in Houston and will be rerouted, sources tell @TheAthletic. He is being looped into the Dillon Brooks sign-and-trade in an expanded deal, sources say."

Patty Mills has been one of the best role players in the NBA since being selected with the 55th pick in the 2009 Draft.

This past year, the veteran point guard averaged 6.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest while shooting 41.1% from the field and 36.6% from the three-point range in 40 regular season games for the Brooklyn Nets.

On Saturday, Shams Charania and Kelly Iko of The Athletic reported that the Nets are trading Mills to the Houston Rockets.

Via Charania: "Rockets are finalizing a deal to acquire Brooklyn’s Patty Mills via trade, sources tell me and @KellyIko."

Mills was with the Nets for two seasons and has also played for the San Antonio Spurs (ten seasons) and Portland Trail Blazers (two seasons).

Last year, the Nets were the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference but got swept in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers.

With San Antonio, Mills helped the franchise win the 2014 NBA Championship over LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

The 34-year-old has career averages of 9.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 38.9% from the three-point range in 860 regular season games (he has also appeared in 95 NBA Playoff games).

While the Rockets were one of the worst teams in the NBA last year (22-60), they have been among the most active teams in the previous 24 hours.

The Rockets last made the NBA Playoffs in 2020 when James Harden was still on the roster.
