Kyrie Irving's Viral Tweet On Saturday Amid Trade Rumors
UPDATE: Kyrie Irving has been ruled out Saturday's game.
On Friday, the NBA world was shocked when Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Brooklyn Nets superstar point guard Kyrie Irving had requested a trade from the organization.
The team is currently the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 31-19 record in 50 games, and Irving has been playing incredibly over the last few months.
After a slow start to the season (and lots of drama), the Nets appeared to finally be on track to making a deep run in the postseason.
That said, Irving will not be with the franchise long-term (it appears).
Via Charania: "Breaking: Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kyrie Irving has requested a trade, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The franchise has been informed that Irving prefers to move on ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline – or will leave in free agency in July."
Charania reported the news at 1:52 p.m. Eastern Time, and less than 12 hours later (1:31 a.m.), Irving sent out a tweet with a GIF.
The image featured the late Bob Marley and had the lyrics: "Don't let them fool ya."
Irving's tweet has gone viral with over 24,000 likes and 3.8 million impressions in less than 12 hours.
The Nets play the Washington Wizards (at Barclays Center in Brooklyn) on Saturday at 6 p.m., and Irving is not on the injury report, which could make for a fascinating evening.
Right now, the former Duke star is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest in 40 games.
