Shocking Report About Phoenix Suns' Chris Paul
Chris Paul was traded (via the Oklahoma City Thunder) to the Phoenix Suns during the summer of 2020.
In that span, the future Hall of Fame point guard led the Suns to the NBA Playoffs for three straight seasons (and they made the NBA Finals in 2021).
On Wednesday, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and the NBA on TNT reported that the franchise would waive the 38-year-old.
Haynes' first tweet: "BREAKING: Phoenix Suns have notified star Chris Paul that he will be waived, making the future Hall of Famer one of the top free agents this offseason, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport."
Haynes' second tweet: "Chris Paul plans to play for several more years and is eager to help a team contend for a championship, sources say."
Paul only had $15.8 million guaranteed left on his deal, so the Suns were able to save a significant amount of money, as he was scheduled to make $30.8 million for the 2023-24 season.
The 18-year veteran is coming off a solid season where he averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.9 assists and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 44.0% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point range.
During the second round of the Playoffs, Paul injured his groin and missed the final four games of the series.
The Suns were the fourth seed in the Western Conference, and after beating the Los Angeles Clippers (in five games), they lost to the Nuggets (in six games).
In addition to the Suns, he has also played for the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
