Mick Schumacher's impressive performance in F1 has earned him commendations from Eddie Jordan, a close friend of his father Michael Schumacher.

Jordan played a pivotal role in launching Michael's F1 career in 1991, leading to his emergence as one of the sport's most celebrated figures. The duo remained friends even after Michael left Jordan to join Benetton and later Ferrari, where he won a remarkable five out of his seven drivers' titles.

Following Michael's life-threatening skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013, which has kept him out of the public eye for almost a decade, Jordan expressed his desire to visit him, but his request was turned down by Michael's wife Corinna, who insisted only immediate family members should see him.

According to Jordan, Mick Schumacher, Michael's son, got in touch with him after he was not able to see him. Jordan explained during an interview with OLBG.

"As far as I'm concerned, I was touched by it [Mick reaching out]. The reason I was touched by it was because it can't be easy knowing that your father is not able to be part of the family, he's there but he's not there."

In recent years, Mick has seldom discussed his father, with only a few instances such as during the release of a Netflix documentary and after scoring points at the British Grand Prix.

Jordan commented on Mick's reserved approach towards discussing his famous father and how he handles the pressure of living up to his legacy.

"I have my own view that I don't want to make public but my guess is that Mick showed elating compassion in the way he spoke about his father when the season was not going particularly well for him."

Although Mick Schumacher has lost his place in Haas and is spending the 2023 season as a test driver for Mercedes, Jordan has faith in the young driver's ability to bounce back and reclaim his spot on the starting grid. Jordan continued:

"He's been dropped for somebody else, and that's a tough decision, he has another fight to come back and to make his name, climb up that ladder again.

"I'm quite sure he will do it. Maybe it was the right thing that happened, but it touched me because I felt so much about Michael, I went out of my way to find him, give him his first chance in Spa. It didn't last very long but that love for him still lasts and will always do so while I'm able to draw breaths."
