Alfa Romeo team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi has given an update on Zhou Guanyu's contract which is currently due to expire at the end of the year.

The Chinese driver was signed by the Swiss-based team at the beginning of 2022 and has recently expressed an interest in extending his contract as part of a multi-year deal with the team.

During a recent interview with Motorsport.com, Alunni Bravi confirms that they are eager to move into 2024 with both Guanyu and his teammate Valtteri Bottas. He explains:

“We are a team in the process of transformation, and we are trying to be as stable as possible in all areas.

“Of course, we are looking for improvement and opportunity.

“After the summer break, Zhou and I will have to sit down and see what would be the best solution for both of us.

“Our goal is to have both drivers in the team next year, but of course, all the elements must be present.”

As per Alunni Bravi's comments, fans can expect a formal announcement of a contract extension for Guanyu shortly after the summer break, which ends with the Dutch Grand Prix on 25 - 27 August.

Guanyu has proved his place on the team during the 2023 season, managing to put in good performances compared to Bottas. The Chinese driver is currently in sixteenth position in the drivers' standings with 4 points, just one point behind Bottas.

Although Alfa Romeo is currently running in ninth position in the constructors' standings, there is just a two point gap to Haas and Williams who are running in seventh and eighth compared to a six point gap behind them to AlphaTauri in tenth.
