Aston Martin had an impressive start to the 2023 season with their pace being the second fastest. However, their form declined as the season progressed, allowing rival teams to catch up.

Aston Martin Driver Fernando Alonso revealed the latest AMR23 update for the Dutch GP at Zandvoort seemed to be working as expected. Explaining that this is a step in the right direction, the Spaniard told GPblog:
"The car felt better, but also the data confirmed that the new upgrade was working as expected in the wind tunnel, so definitely a step forward.
"I think it definitely is a step in the right direction. We obviously need more. We always ask for more. [The] competition is really strong. McLaren, even Williams, they were very strong this weekend as well.
"So this shows how tight everything is, but it seems that we understood a few of the things that went wrong a few races ago for us. We are taking the right path again, and this is very interesting also, not for this year, but also for next year."
At 168 points in third position in the drivers' standings, Alonso has extended his lead to Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in fourth position. Speaking of the constructors' standings, Mercedes in second position at 255 points has pulled a 40-point lead from Aston Martin in third position with 215 points.
Despite the AMR23's boost in performance, Aston Martin has a bit to worry about as Ferrari is hot on their tail in fourth place at just 201 points. A single Grand Prix could either send Aston Martin one place north or south in the standings. Would the upgrades make a significant difference and save the team from losing the third spot? Only time can tell.
