Model and actress Cara Delevingne has hit back after the incredible amount of backlash following her awkward encounter with Martin Brundle at the British Grand Prix.

Before the race at Silverstone legendary Sky Sports pundit Brundle was set to have a word with Delevingne. Yet, the interaction went south when Delevingne declined the interview leaving fans outraged on social media.

Brundle took the rejection in his stride, replying sarcastically:

“Ok…I’m sure it would have been extremely interesting.”

Fans were quick to criticise Delevingne calling for the F1 and FIA to ban celebrities from the pit walk and give fans access instead who would cherish the opportunity.

Post-race, Delevingne addressed the incident on social media. The actress and model wrote:

“I was told to say no so I did. Thank you for seeing both sides.

“Anyway, I had so much fun today and was so happy to be there no matter what anyone else may think.”

A fan questioned Delevingne about the role of her agent in the refusal, leading her to clarify:

“It wasn’t an agent, it was an F1 representative,” emphasising it was an official from F1 who advised her to say no.

Unfortunately for Delevingne, F1 fans were still struggling to see her side of the argument. One commented:

"If you're going to accept a VIP grid pass at F1 you should know the rules of the grid. If Brundle comes to talk, you talk. Otherwise, get off the grid and give it to someone who'd be delighted to get the chance to speak to him."

Someone else suggested that Delevingne should have engaged just a little bit. They wrote:

"Celebrity is a privilege. When you’re given amazing opportunities that that privilege affords you, I feel you should do your bit to engage. No one is expecting any detailed response, they just want you to enjoy it as much as they would!"
