F1 News: Daniel Ricciardo Provides Recovery Update After Breaking His Wrist Ahead Of Dutch GP

Daniel Ricciardo has updated his fans after breaking his wrist during the second practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.

Daniel Ricciardo has updated fans on his recovery after breaking his wrist during FP2 ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend. 

The Australian driver crashed into the race wall during FP2 after having to react quickly to Oscar Piastri who had crashed on the same corner ahead of him. Ricciardo later told the media that he had to make a split-second decision of either going into the wall or into Piastri, he obviously chose the former which meant he didn't have enough time to take his hands off the steering wheel leaving him with a broken metacarpal.

Ricciardo was taken to the medical centre immediately after the crash and then onto the nearby hospital. The AlphaTauri team confirmed that Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson would be stepping into Ricciardo's AT04 for the rest of the weekend. 

Once is was confirmed that Ricciardo had broken his metacarpal questions arose over how long his recovery will be. Although that is still unknown, Ricciardo has updated his fans that he has undergone surgery this morning and is on the road to recovery. He posted to Instagram:

"Hey everyone. Had surgery this morning, got my first bit of metal work so that’s pretty cool. Big thanks to everyone who reached out and kept my spirits up. This ain’t a setback, just all part of the comeback"

It is understood that Lawson will continue to drive in Ricciardo's absence until he is ready to get back into the car. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner mentioned the Singapore Grand Prix as a possible target return date, however, Ricciardo's progress will be monitored over the next few weeks.
