F1 News: Fans Lay Into George Russell After Belgian GP Sprint Shootout Errors Ruin Lewis Hamilton's Session
F1 fans have been hitting out at Mercedes driver George Russell after potentially impeding his teammate Lewis Hamilton during the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Shootout session earlier today.
Hamilton had managed to take provisional pole position in the early stages of SQ3 and has since said that he felt he could have gone faster. However, after encountering traffic and a potential impeding from Russell, he will now start the Sprint Race from seventh.
Speaking after the session, Hamilton was asked for details on what happened with Russell, but he stopped himself from going into detail. He explained:
"With George [Russell]... it's just the way it is.
"I mean I was letting him... well, it doesn't really matter."
Fans have been hitting out at Russell on social media, one fan wrote to Reddit:
"George Russell demonstrating how he’s not the 7 time world champion"
Another fan commented that Hamilton might be missing his former teammate of five years, Valtteri Bottas, who moved to Alfa Romeo at the end of 2021. The fan wrote:
"Think Lewis will be okay because he's probably the quickest driver in the field when it's wet, but damn I guarantee he's missing Bottas right about now."
Someone else commented on Hamilton's interview, writing:
"He was visibly pissed but he kind of brushed off the George question saying 'It doesn't matter'. That PR training doing overtime."
"George mate if you're going to throw your teammates lap under the bus at the very least don't f**k your own up in the first f***ing corner."
Russell will be starting the Sprint Race from tenth position whilst Max Verstappen is starting from pole position followed by Oscar Piastri.
