Ralf Schumacher claims Haas needs to make a restructure in order to deliver a car to Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen which matches their potential.

During his post-race column for Sky Deutschland, the former F1 driver commented on the current situation of the American team after the Canadian Grand Prix. He explained:

“Nico Hulkenberg experienced a modest race after a strong qualifying session.

“This is very frustrating for him. Both he and Kevin Magnussen have the potential to finish in the points, but the Haas team has too big a deficit.

“They’ve gotten to a point where they have to think about what needs to change and restructure.

“Haas is currently the absolute bottom of the field and that cannot be a situation in the long run.”

Nico Hulkenberg - Kevin Magnussen

Nico Hulkenberg surprisingly managed to put in the second fastest time during qualifying on Saturday but started the race in fifth due to a 3-place grid penalty for speeding under red flag conditions. The German driver finished the race on Sunday in fifteenth with Magnussen finishing in seventeenth.

These comments from Schumacher come after he called out Haas team principal Guenther Steiner for supposedly mistreating his nephew, Mick Schumacher, when he left the team at the end of 2022.

Schumacher continued with his analysis:

“Team boss Guenther Steiner said at the weekend that he was satisfied with the driver pairing. In doing so, he promised Hulkenberg another year as a regular driver.

“But the question is: what can Haas offer him?

“If I were him, I would first ask what steps are being taken to improve the situation. Because one thing is clear, if everything stays the way it is – also in terms of personnel – then not much will change.”
