The ever-growing Formula 1 calendar has become a topic of debate. While the expansion brings excitement to fans, insiders are considering its ramifications on the sport's community.

The current season boasts 22 races, with two cancellations. However, the upcoming season is set to stretch even further, featuring an incredible 24 races. Such a densely packed schedule doesn't only mean more action but also raises potential issues for those deeply embedded in the sport's operations.

Eddie Jordan, a seasoned voice in F1 and a former team boss, expressed his concerns on the Formula For Success podcast. Jordan commented, highlighting the importance of downtime in such an intensive profession.

“It’s nice to have a break.

“I think it’s important for [people in] Formula 1 to recharge themselves. I’m a real, real fan of taking time out for children when they’re away from school and holidays and stuff like that.

“I just think that we have too many races. It’s putting a very severe impact on the physical and mental [health] and all sorts of requirements that people [have] and [people] working in Formula 1 need to recharge their batteries.

“I just feel that this is hugely important, and I hope they all enjoy it.”

This packed calendar isn't just taxing for the drivers or team leaders. In fact, former driver David Coulthard pointed out that it's even tougher on the teams behind the scenes, like mechanics and engineers. They're the backbone of the sport, ensuring everything runs seamlessly on race day.

Offering a solution, Jordan shared his strategic approach, were he still in a managerial position. 

“At this stage, I would have split the team into two halves.

“One half is designing and creating and building and thinking about next year’s car, because the progress… it just never stops.

“So we’re thinking about the autoclave, we’re thinking about putting stuff in a wind tunnel for next year.

“Let’s not lose sight of that, because this is where the teams are really, really up against it that they have to perform for now and to finish out the season to get the best that they possibly can, but also to think about the future.”
