F1 News: Insiders Question Lance Stroll's Future In Sport Despite Family Connections
The sale of Force India back in 2018 will forever be marked as the time the Stroll family crashed the party in the paddock, creating a shock across the speedy world of Formula One.
Six years later, money can only keep you in a racing seat for so long, and that seat is starting to get a little hot for Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll.
Currently, in P8 in the Driver's Championship standings, Stroll has two DNFs and has missed multiple chances at points in eight races this season, falling short of the success that his Aston Martin teammate, Fernando Alonso, is achieving.
The lack of results that Stroll has produced has F1 experts, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard, raising a question that is in need of an answer: Can Lance Stroll help make Aston Martin a constructor champion contender?
"I’m not saying Lance isn’t good enough, he’s won everything all the way through his journey towards F1... But there’s a point where you can’t keep making excuses," said former F1 driver David Coulthard.
"This is a stopwatch competition, and a certain point that is what will dictate what teams choose to do in the future."
As for the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, he's had a remarkable run so far this year, challenging the likes of the Red Bulls and the Ferraris.
Alonso is currently in P3 of the Driver's Championship standings, driving the same Aston Martin AMR23 F1 car that Stroll is currently mishandling.
Despite his lack of results, Stroll remains supported by his father and the team's senior management.
"In subsequent races he’s obviously been struggling a little bit with that, and his fitness... But really, incredibly gutsy performances from him, particularly in the start of the season," said Aston Martin Principal, Mike Krack, on Stroll's efforts this season.
There's no doubt that the Aston Martin has a chance to compete as a contender in Formula One, and the grit in drivers like Alonso and Stroll is only going to enhance their chances.
But race after race, the questions on whether or not Lance Stroll deserves an F1 seat need to be answered quickly by the man himself.
