George Russell has crashed during the Canadian Grand Prix just thirteen laps into the race in Montreal.

The British driver lost control after riding the kerb on the chicane and collided with the race wall. A safety car was put on the session in order to clear the debris left on the track. Surprisingly, Russell was able to crawl back into the pits and the Mercedes team replaced the front wing and tyres.

Russell made his way back onto the track but is now sitting in nineteenth whereas he had been running in fourth.

The safety car gave the other drivers an opportunity to pit which the front three did, with Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso pitting for hard tyres.

As Russell got back out on the track the team asked for feedback on how the car was feeling to which he responded, "it's a bit bent but okay".

The safety car came into the pits on lap 16 when the racing resumed.
