F1 News: George Russell Sends Sly Jab To Three Drivers - "Not At The Same Level As The Best"
Mercedes F1 driver George Russell has openly confessed that there are a trio of drivers amongst his competitors whom he simply cannot fully trust when it comes to on-track contact.
According to the British driver, a small number of F1 drivers have gained a reputation for adopting an overly-aggressive racing style, leading to numerous controversial on-track encounters. There have been instances when some drivers have pushed the boundaries a bit too far, leading to crashes and damage to cars.
Russell underscored the critical role of trust between the drivers on the track. The Grand Prix winner stated that there are many of his peers he wouldn't hesitate to engage in wheel-to-wheel racing. However, the Mercedes driver did concede that there are "three" drivers he wouldn't place his complete trust in while jostling for positions on the track.
In a conversation with Motorsport.com, Russell chose to remain discrete about the identities of these drivers. However, he did quantify the number of drivers he felt uneasy about:
“Maybe three drivers on the grid who you wouldn’t feel comfortable going against.
“There’s a trust between most of the drivers. I don’t think [those three unnamed racers] have the spatial awareness of others.
“So, actually you prefer fighting hard against the great drivers because you know that they’re going to be able to control their car better and place it in hard positions but not dangerous positions comparing with somebody who maybe isn’t at the same level as the best.”
Racing will get going again with the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
