Williams driver Logan Sargeant is a happy man after securing P7 in qualifying- his best grid position of the season and his career so far. Considering the boost in performance, team principal James Vowles might have just offered a positive update on the driver's future with the team.

Sargeant's seat at Williams has been at stake for next year after a rather turbulent 2023 season that witnessed a few ups and more downs from the American driver, who hadn't scored a single point. Vowles, who offered him a chance to prove himself until the end of this year, has been quite patient with the rookie driver.

Fortunately, a P3 in FP3 and a P7 in the Las Vegas GP qualifying have offered him the window of opportunity to secure not only the third-row start but maybe, also his seat for the 2024 season.

The pressure on Sargeant escalated further with expectations from his hometown crowd, anticipating a remarkable performance from the 22-year-old. Commenting on Sargeant's impressive display, Vowles shared with Sky Sports F1:

“We knew we would be quick here.

“To actually have both cars nicely in the top 10 and within six tenths of pole, that’s a great achievement.

“For Logan, this is a blank sheet for everyone because no one has been around here. Over the last four or five race weekends he’s really been building it into the weekend, no mistakes and building it.”

Expressing his excitement after hopping out of his car, Sargeant added:

“To do it here in Vegas is extra special which is highlighted by the fact we have a great car here.

“It’s not easy to deliver on that performance, so the fact we’re able to continuously do that throughout the session is awesome.

“It’s been a great day for the team and congrats to everyone. We’ve worked hard and knew this weekend was a good opportunity and we’re off to the right start.

“Most importantly we have two cars near the front of the grid.

“We have a very annoying car down the straights for others, so we’ll try and use that to our advantage. Hopefully, we can continue this level of performance and have a strong race.”

Teammate Alex Albon went a step ahead as he qualified P6 but, once penalties are applied, the positions will move up by one each, making it a P5 and P6 start for the team.

Coincidentally, Williams Racing will resume its campaign in Las Vegas from where it left off 41 years ago. Back at Caesars Palace on the same day, the team secured a P5 and P6 finish, mirroring the positions on the grid for Saturday night's race.
