It is difficult to imagine the seven-time champion driving in Formula One without Bono who he has worked with since he joined Mercedes in 2013, and thankfully, that isn't something fans will need to picture as Hamilton has now confirmed that his race engineer has also extended his contract with the team.
Speaking ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Hamilton confirmed to the media:
“Yes, Bono is stuck! I’m very fortunate. Again, that’s history, as well.
“I don’t think there’s ever been an engineer and driver pairing for this long. We’re setting records.”
When he was asked if he could have predicted being in the sport this long, Hamilton explained that he was surprised he is still keen on continuing at 38-years-old. He responded:
“Yes definitely [surprised].
“I didn’t think I’d be the age that I am, and feel the way I do, physically and mentally. And still love what I do. That’s something I’m incredibly grateful for.
“Some people stay in the same jobs and roles for a long period of time, fall out of love with it, but keep going because maybe it’s the only thing they can do.
“I still love working alongside Bono and the guys in the team, chasing that common goal and dream. I love the feeling of having the lows and highs together. There’s nothing like it.”
