During the unveiling of the RB20, Max Verstappen expressed a positive perspective on Lewis Hamilton's significant switch from Mercedes to Ferrari for the upcoming year, describing the move as something that "will look cool".
  • Surprise and Impact of Hamilton's Move:
Verstappen, a consistent rival of Hamilton, highlighted the surprising nature of Hamilton's decision to move to Ferrari. The move not only marks the end of Hamilton's longstanding partnership with Mercedes but also has wider implications for the driver market, particularly with several contracts set to expire after the 2024 season.
  • Verstappen's Contract and Future Possibilities:
Verstappen reassured that he is not actively considering a change, as his Red Bull contract extends well beyond the start of the new era of Formula 1 regulations, concluding at the end of the 2028 season. Verstappen has consistently been a formidable rival of Hamilton, engaging in numerous on-track battles. The response to Hamilton's move to Ferrari has been primarily characterized by surprise. This decision not only marks the conclusion of his longstanding partnership with Mercedes but also sends ripples through the driver market, especially considering several driver contracts are set to expire after the 2024 season.

Fortunately for Verstappen, he isn't 'open to hiring' anytime soon since his Red Bull contract runs well beyond the beginning of the new era of regulations in Formula 1, concluding at the end of the 2028 season. Being in the safe zone of the F1 driver market, here's what the Dutchman expressed about Hamilton's Ferrari move:

“At the end of the day, if someone wants to drive for Ferrari, especially someone like Lewis who has already achieved so much, if that’s his dream and goal... Again, we don’t know the talks they’ve had, at Mercedes, at Ferrari, what has been promised, what they think is coming.

“You can’t give an honest assessment from our side as to why you make that decision. You know, if he is happy with that move, I think it will look cool and of course I hope for them it will be a success but you don’t know.”

However, Verstappen didn't rule out a switch to Ferrari in the future, despite it not being on his mind, currently. He said:

“I don’t want to sound, like, disrespectful or whatever because I have a lot of respect for the brand Ferrari, but I’m happy where I’m at.

“I’m comfortable in the environment I’m in so it’s not something I’m looking to change or whatever but again, in my life, you always want to experience so never say never but, for me now, it’s not even in my head.”
