“But I find it really interesting because, at some point, there’s going to be a changing of the guard on that team.”

Russell's own reflections on mistakes and his drive to be a team leader illuminate his commitment and readiness to evolve, underscoring Pinkham's observations:

“There’s no doubt that he can, he’s just not quite to the level of Lewis yet. But, at some point, there’s going to be a sort of handing over of the baton, if you like.”

Simultaneously, Russell himself has affirmed a non-antagonistic relationship with Hamilton, stating to Autohebdo:

“We have a very open relationship with Lewis... There's a lot of mutual respect between us.”

However, Pinkham subtly emphasises that Russell, while self-critical and in a developmental phase, is neither daunted nor overshadowed by Hamilton’s legacy, contemplating him as not merely a competitor but a possible predecessor.

“He’s not overawed by being in a team with a multiple world champion,” Pinkham noted.
