Four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel has hinted at a return to Formula One.

It is not clear at this stage in what capacity this would be, however, the German driver has confirmed that he has had meetings with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

Whilst speaking to selected media, including F1 Briefings, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend, Vettel explained:

"I've been to Monaco earlier this year. Had a meeting, a very good meeting with Stefano [Domenicali]. You know, other than obviously the cars directly polluting, F1 has a huge responsibility because it's a very big event. A lot of people attend. I think you had around 500,000 people at the British Grand Prix last weekend.

"So there's a lot more to it than just the cars, but obviously the cars is [huge], everybody sees them and it's important that it's headed in the right direction. But, I'm talking and I have some ideas and obviously we'll see what the future brings."

Vettel is passionate about making motorsports more environmentally friendly so it is no surprise that he could be involved with discussions with Domenicali as the sport aims to be carbon neutral by 2030. Whilst Vettel remains coy about an official return, many are hoping to see the legendary driver back in the sport soon.

The four-time champion decided to head into retirement at the end of the 2022 season. He entered his F1 rookie season in 2007 with Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) before moving up to Red Bull in 2009 where he won his four consecutive championships. Vettel moved to Ferrari in 2015 before his final move to Aston Martin in 2021.
