Sergio Perez has insisted there is a lot of respect between him and his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen, despite ongoing rumours of friction within the team as both drivers fight it out for the championship.

The Austrian team has dominated the 2023 season so far winning all five races and for four out of those five they have taken the top two spots on the podium. As a result of this, Verstappen finds himself with his main competitor for the 2023 drivers championship being his teammate Perez.

During an interview with RacingNews365.com, Perez spoke about the importance of keeping on top of things with the rest of the field behind him. He explained:

“Yeah. The margins are very close, particularly on Saturdays.

“On Sunday, it depends a bit circuit to circuit, so it’s important not to make mistakes.”

The Mexican driver went on to add that there is a high level of respect between him and Verstappen as well as within the team amid the ongoing speculation of tension. He continued:

“I think the level of respect between Max, myself, the engineers, is really high, although people might think differently, but it’s extremely high.

“And I’m sure that the team feels super confident to let us race as hard as we’ve been doing.”

Perez took the win at the Saudi Arabian and Azerbaijan Grand Prix as well as the sprint race in Baku. The Mexican driver will be hoping to keep up his impressive performance at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend, if it is able to go ahead with the ongoing weather warning concerns.
