F1 News: Sergio Perez Health Update After Missing Thursday's Media Day
Just as the Austrian Grand Prix weekend was about to get underway, Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, had unfortunately fallen ill. It was unclear yesterday whether the Mexican driver would be participating in the weekend, however, he has now been spotted at the track ready for Free Practice 1.
An official confirmation came from a representative of the team yesterday, stating that Perez would not be making an appearance at the track or for any media obligations. It was also stated that the exact nature of his illness would not be shared with the press.
"He became unwell last night and took the day to rest, aiming to ensure he's in the best possible health for the race over the weekend," the spokesperson had shared.
This careful approach was targeted at optimising his recovery for the race that was soon to take place.
Interestingly, Red Bull had faced a similar incident in the past. Earlier that season, during the Jeddah Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had also been unable to meet his media obligations on a Thursday. However, just like Verstappen, Perez showed his resilience.
In a recent update, it has been confirmed that Sergio Perez is back at the racing track and appears to be participating in the free practice session. This is surely a positive turn of events for the Red Bull.
The Austrian team posted to social media to assure their fans that Perez is feeling better, they wrote:
"Checo is feeling better and ready for quali day! #AustrianGP"
The Austrian Grand Prix hosts the second sprint race of the season so there will only be one free practice session shortly followed by Qualifying later today. Tomorrow will host the sprint shootout and sprint race followed by the Grand Prix on Sunday.
