The performance difference between the two drivers has resulted in multiple rumours circulating about Perez's future with the team. According to Viaplay Sport Nederland, Perez explained:
"It is very difficult of course to have Max as a teammate.
"But I don't think we should take anything away from the talent that he is, how hard he works, how he delivers, how focused he is.
"He is just a great driver, it's great to have him as a teammate. He pushes to the maximum, it creates a lot of pressure. It's not always easy to cope with that, a guy who is delivering 100% out of the car."
The prospect of being the Dutch driver's teammate has been a big talking point over the years. Fellow Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel recently spoke about the possibility of Lando Norris joining the Red Bull team. He commented:
"Next to Max, your career just ends."
The Formula One summer break will be coming to an end with Verstappen's home race, the Dutch Grand Prix, this weekend. Perez will be looking to solidify his second position in the drivers' standings by the end of the year in order to prove his seat on the team.
Perez is currently in contract with Red Bull until the end of 2024. Team principal Christian Horner has remained adamant that Perez's position in the team is secure.
