F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has released a statement following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix due to severe flooding in the region.

Aside from the statement released from the F1, Domenicali has also shared a message thanking the emergency services for all of the work that they have done and confirming that the right decision has been made.

The statement reads:

“It is such a tragedy to see what happened in Imola and in Emilia-Romagna, the city and region where I grew up, and my thoughts and my prayers are with the victims of the floods and the affected families and communities.

"I want to express my gratitude and admiration for the amazing emergency services who are working tirelessly to help those in need of help and ease the situation - they are heroes and all of Italy is proud of them.

"The decision that has been made is the right one for everyone in the local communities and for the F1 family, as we need to ensure safety and not create additional burdens for the authorities as they deal with this dire situation."

It was confirmed earlier today that the grand prix was cancelled for this weekend following the severe flooding in the area. This came after reports of red weather warnings on Monday followed by the staff from the F1 paddock being told to evacuate on Tuesday and not to return until further notice.

The teams and drivers have been sharing their well wishes for all those affected by the floods as well as details on how to donate money to help with the situation.

The next Grand Prix will now take place on 26 - 28 May in Monaco.
