Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has revealed that Mercedes CEO and team principal Toto Wolff approached the Austrian team for a permanent seat for Mick Schumacher

Schumacher lost his seat with the Haas team at the end of last year when they decided not to extend his contract. The German driver was then not able to secure another full-time seat on the grid so signed with Mercedes as their reserve driver for 2023.

There has been a lot os speculation over whether Schumacher will return to the grid for 2024, which is what he hopes to do. Marko has now revealed that Wolff is trying to help Schumacher get into another team by approaching Red Bull. It sounds as though the request was not very well received and was unsuccessful from Marko's comments.

During an interview with SPORT1, Marko explained:

"It came up during a meeting. It's just a pity that at the same time, Mr Wolff was again openly playing politics with the FIA against us. That took the subject off the table.

"Why should we pick on Schumacher? He is a Mercedes driver, Mr Wolff is responsible for him. If he thinks so much of him: why not let him drive in his own team or use his influence to get him in a customer team like Williams?"

Schumacher has already been linked to Williams with rookie Logan Sargeant's seat being up for discussion amongst fans. The American driver is just one of two that hasn't put any points on the board so far this season. There have even been rumours that Schumacher is ready to replace Sargeant mid-season, however, this has not been confirmed by either party.
