F1 News: Valtteri Bottas Disqualified After British GP Qualifying Blunder
Valtteri Bottas has been officially disqualified following today's British GP qualifying session at the Silverstone Circuit. This unfortunate outcome is due to Alfa Romeo's failure to provide a fuel sample.
Originally finishing in P15, a disqualification from qualifying due to not providing a fuel sample means Bottas will now have to start from the tail end of the grid. This unexpected development brings a bit of luck to Red Bull's Sergio Perez, who didn't manage to get past Q2, as he is now set to start at P15.
Although this was a foreseen outcome for Bottas given the circumstances, the official penalty was awaiting confirmation from the FIA, which has now come through.
The letter from the stewards reads:
"A 1.0 litre sample of fuel could not be provided.
"The Stewards head from the team representative of car 77 (Valtteri Bottas). The car was unable to provide the required fuel sample. There were no mitigating circumstances.
"The Stewards have received a request from Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake to allow Car 77 to start the race. The Stewards therefore grand permission to Car 77, Valtteri Bottas to start the race."
Bottas will now start the race from the back of the grid instead of fifteenth.
