Max Verstappen has taken pole position for the British Grand Prix tomorrow.

Following the Red Bull driver on the starting grid will be Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri who put in the second and third fastest times, respectively.

Going into qualifying, Max Verstappen had put in the fastest time in FP1 and FP2 whilst Charles Leclerc went fastest in FP3. However, Verstappen had not put in a fast lap on soft tyres in FP3 before the rain began to fall.

Williams also went into qualifying having a promising weekend, especially with Alex Albon putting in the third and second fastest times in FP2 and FP3, respectively.

The risk of rain for qualifying was extremely high at the start of the session, so the drivers were eager to get out there quickly to get times on the board quickly. DRS was also disabled due to the risk of rain, which makes things a bit harder for Red Bull as their DRS is so efficient.

Kevin Magnussen encountered what is thought to be a power unit issue with 3 minutes to go putting a brief red flag on the session.

Chaos ensued as the session resumed with the line-up constantly changing. Sergio Perez managed to get himself out of the elimination zone and onto provisional pole only to be nudged all the way back down to be eliminated. He will start the race from sixteenth tomorrow.

Nyck de Vries also managed to put a great lap time in but in a similar situation, was very quickly put further and further down the grid.

Out in Q1

  1. Sergio Perez
  2. Yuki Tsunoda
  3. Zhou Guanyu
  4. Nyck de Vries
  5. Kevin Magnussen

Although he got through into Q2, Valtteri Bottas was forced to stop on track at the very end of Q1 with issues with his Alfa Romeo. He was not able to get the car going again so will not go out in Q2 so will start the race from fifteenth tomorrow.

Track limits seemed to be an issue during Q2 with Logan Sargeant and Lance Stroll both having lap times deleted.

Out of Q2

  1. Nico Hulkenberg
  2. Lance Stroll
  3. Esteban Ocon
  4. Logan Sargeant
  5. Valtteri Bottas

DRS was enabled for the final part of qualifying in Q3.

Max Verstappen quickly put himself on provisional pole and showing an advantage with two sets of new soft tyres available to him during Q3. The majority of the other drivers began to pit for new soft tyres with about two minutes to go in order to try and put themselves in the best position for pole.
