Williams team principal James Vowles has showered Alex Albon with praise as the sole point-earner for the team during the 2023 season so far.

Albon has scored twenty points in the last seven races, putting his and the team's total for the season at 21 points. Vowles believes the Thai driver should be aiming to win races and stand on the podium.

The British team has shown significant improvements during the 2023 season and with the addition of Vowles, many believe this is the start of the comeback for the iconic team.

Speaking to the media, Vowles explained:

"He should be aiming for winning races and being on the podium.

"He has the potential and he frankly deserves to be in that position. But more so that's a journey he's happy to do with Williams, whilst we're on the pathway towards it at the same time.

"That's the perfect summary of that situation. He's a racing driver coming to the peak of his career, he should absolutely be focused on doing the best he can with his God-given ability, while it still exists."

Albon made entered his F1 rookie season in 2019 with Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) but Vowles is confident he still has a long career ahead of him. Vowles continued:

"His lifecycle [as a driver], I mean if you look at [42-year-old] Fernando [Alonso] it's [15] years that he has in front of him. He has a good amount of time in front of him now.

"But I'd be disappointed if any team-mate joined me and said: ‘All I'm interested in doing is scoring the odd point'.

"They shouldn't [have that mindset]. They should be focused on winning races and performing at the utmost."

Albon's rookie teammate Logan Sargeant is yet to score a point and with his contract due to expire at the end of the 2023 season, rumours have began to circulate about the American's future with the team.
