Ferrari is looking to take a new direction with the SF-23 after Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz's recent struggles at the Miami Grand Prix.

Both drivers were complaining of inconsistency in the cars during the Miami Grand Prix. Ferrari fans were excited to see the effects of upgrades brought to the cars for the first of the three American races, however, they clearly did not have the desired effect.

Although it takes some time to gather the data to get the right set-up for the upgrades, it has now been reported that the team are taking a new approach and are going down a different development path.

A report from Auto Motor und Sport explains that the next big upgrade will not come in under Barcelona which is on 4th June.

"Ferrari has changed its development plan.

"The big upgrade won't come until Barcelona after all. But there will be preparatory measures at every race before that.

"A new underbody debuted in Miami, which is intended to improve aerodynamic stability and thus reduce balance shifts.

"These are one of the main reasons for the high tyre wear."

This will not be what fans of the Maranello-based squad will want to hear as it projects a couple more races with difficulties for the team.

Sainz is currently in fifth place on the drivers' standings with 44 points behind Lewis Hamilton who has 56 points and ahead of George Russell who has 40 points. Leclerc is currently in seventh position with 34 head of Lance Stroll with 27 points.

The next important F1 date is 19 - 21st May for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
