Fernando Alonso has said that new teammate Lance Stroll was his "driver of the day" at the Bahrain Grand Prix for the performance he put in despite it being only 12 days since he had surgery on his wrist.

Aston Martin had a fantastic start to the 2023 season which has come as a surprise to many. The team finished seventh in the 2022 constructors' championship and are now sitting in second place in the championship, albeit only after one race.

Alonso took to his social media to gush about his new teammate. He posted:

"Lance Stroll, my driver of the day. 12 days after surgery, incredible performance."

Fans were on edge when Stroll and Alonso had a small run in on the first lap with the Canadian driver running into Alonso's AMR23. The Spanish driver spent the rest of the race asking the team who it was who had hit him and was calling for penalties, completely oblivious it was his teammate. However, after the race had concluded, all seemed to have been patched up between the pair.

It has been an incredibly exciting start to the season and fans are loving having another team up in the mix with Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes for a change.

Many fans of Alonso are hoping he is in a car competitive enough to get his third championship title. Max Verstappen is hoping to win his third consecutive championship this year, so it will be a tough fight for Alonso but all the more exciting for fans.

The next important F1 date is 17-19 March for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.
