Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has given a rare update on Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher suffered from severe brain injuries after a horrific skiing accident in December 2013. The family have kept updates to a minimum since then to keep the seven-time F1 champion's condition private.

Corinna, Michael's wife, has been very selective over who has been able to visit him since. Todt has been a regular visitor for a while and has recently spoken to Corriere della Serra, explaining that the "accident had consequences", but to "respect the privacy wishes". He said:

“Let's leave him alone, we respect the privacy wishes of Corinna and her children, we know that that accident had consequences.

"Anyone who says he knows something, he knows nothing. I always go to see him. He and his family are my family.”

The most recent update with some detail before this was from Corinna herself in Netflix's Schumacher film where she confirmed that Michael is "different" since the accident. She said:

“I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but he's here and that gives us strength, I find.

“We try to carry on a family as Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. 'Private is private', as he always said. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.”

It has also recently been reported that the family are looking to move from Switzerland to Mallorca to a home which will be refurbished to cater for his care needs.
