Formula One "Confident Allegations Are Wrong" As FIA Launches Investigation Of Mercedes Chief
Formula One has made a statement following the FIA's investigation into Toto and Susie Wolff for potential conflicts of interest, remaining adamant that they are confident no breaches have been made.
The FIA has initiated an investigation into Toto and Susie Wolff, following concerns from Formula 1 team principals about potential conflicts of interest. The inquiry responds to suspicions that the Wolffs might possess insider knowledge that could unfairly benefit Mercedes.
The situation escalated due to a report by BusinessF1 Magazine, which detailed an incident where Toto Wolff, Mercedes' team principal and CEO, allegedly used confidential information from Formula One Management (FOM) in a team principal meeting. This sparked the current controversy.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the FIA president, has involved the FIA Compliance Department to thoroughly investigate these claims, demonstrating the seriousness of the allegations. The statement from the FIA is as follows:
"The FIA is aware of media speculation centred on the allegation of information of a confidential nature being passed to an F1 team principal from a member of FOM personnel. The FIA Compliance Department is looking into the matter."
Formula One management has now also commented on the situation by issuing the following statement:
"We note the public statement made by the FIA this evening that was not shared with us in advance.
"We have complete confidence that the allegations are wrong, and we have robust processes and procedures that ensure the segregation of information and responsibilities in the event of any potential conflict of interest.
"We are confident that no member of our team has made any unauthorised disclosure to a team principal, would caution anyone against making imprudent and serious allegations without substance."
