Red Bull Team Chief In Hot Water After "Absolutely Disgraceful" Sergio Perez Comments
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has come under fire from F1 fans for putting down Sergio Perez's Azerbaijan Grand Prix win when speaking with Max Verstappen who crossed the line in second.
There have been reports of tensions within the Austrian team for a little while, with these coming to a height at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix. Verstappen denied team orders by refusing to let Perez back past him in the closing parts of the race due to reasons "he had already explained" to the team.
The Dutch driver is fighting for his third championship win and his biggest rival this season seems to be his own teammate who is eager to get his first championship win under his belt.
The Mexican driver won the sprint race yesterday and went on to take the win at the Grand Prix today. Fans were unhappy when they heard Horner putting the win down to luck over the timings of a safety car over the team radio to Verstappen.
One fan posted to Twitter:
"How does Christian Horner get away with saying to Max “Checo got lucky with the safety car” how the f**k is this normal. He’s a team mate. Absolutely disgraceful to Checo especially that he didn’t even say congrats to Checo on radio."
Someone else called the team chief out, writing:
"Christian Horner to Max on the radio: “Checo got a little lucky with the safety car” lmfao why do you sound SO disappointed by that"
Another angry fan claimed Horner should "respect" Perez more. They wrote:
"'Checo got a little lucky with the safety car' respect your f***ing driver Christian Horner ????"
"Christian Horner coming over the radio to Max saying that Checo got lucky with the safety car and conveniently ignoring the fact that Checo still managed to pull out a gap which he maintained despite Max’s best efforts You hate to see it"
There are now just six points separating the two drivers at the top of the drivers' standings. With it being so close between the pair, things are surely going to be getting more and more competitive on the track.
