Recently-retired F1 champion Sebastian Vettel has shared a throwback photo of him alongside Michael Schumacher as well as another with Schumacher's son Mick.

Posting to Instagram Vettel and Mick wrote:

"Friendship from one generation to the next."

Vettel competed in the Race of Champions earlier this year with Mick Schumacher, who left the Haas F1 team at the end of 2022 and is now with Mercedes as a reserve driver for the 2023 season.

This was a particularly poignant moment for Vettel as he has also competed in the Race of Champions with Mick's father, F1 icon Michael Schumacher back in 2012.

The Schumacher family have remained incredibly private since Michael's horrific skiing accident in December 2013 which left him with brain injuries. Fans are often eager to hear how he is doing in the family's rare updates.

Fans shared their emotional messages over the throwback photo with some saying:

"Thanks! I’ll be crying for the next 4-5 business days"

"This picture warms my heart"

"I would absolutely love to see Mick and Michael today"

"Michael‘s first son and Mick‘s second dad"

"I was rooting for Schumi and Seb and my sporting heart loves them dearly. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Mick."

"Seb woke up and decided to break our hearts"

"Miss seeing you both on the grid. Mick, I am sure we will see you in a race seat soon. Seb, F1 isn't the same without you and you made the sport so much better during your time racing. Thank you both for showing the world what true sportsmen should be like. Finally to Michael, the legend that made me love F1, I hope that you are well and know that you are loved by fans the world over."
