Finnish F1 racing driver Valtteri Bottas is joining forces with contemporary Aboriginal artist Ricky Kildea to create two one-of-a-kind helmet designs, one of which will be auctioned off at the Australian Grand Prix. This unique collaboration aims to honour Australia's Indigenous communities and raise funds for charity, with proceeds going to Save the Children, Alfa Romeo's official charity partner.

The Mooroopna Kinder Project

Ricky Kildea, known for his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Indigenous communities, intertwines his cultural identity with his love for sports. His captivating art pieces often revolve around Australian Rules Football. Through this partnership with Bottas, Kildea is taking a step further in his quest to make a difference.

The Mooroopna Kinder Project, which was severely damaged during last year's floods, provides childcare assistance to families in need. Funds raised from the helmet auction will help Save the Children cover repair costs and purchase new equipment, ensuring the project's continued support for struggling families.

Empowering Aboriginal Youth through the Koorie Academy Basketball

The Koorie Academy Basketball, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Aboriginal children overcome barriers to sports inclusion, is the second beneficiary of the auction's proceeds. This financial support will enable the academy to continue offering cultural workshops and basketball clinics for Aboriginal youth, fostering their development and sense of belonging.

Bottas and Kildea on the Project

“I have a keen interest in design, this shouldn’t be a surprise, and I like to express myself through my special helmets," Bottas told the press.

"Australian culture and history are something I have taken a keen interest in recent years, especially through my partner, Tiffany, who is from here, and we were committed to paying a special tribute to the Indigenous community.

"Hence, the collaboration with Ricky was born. He’s a very talented artist, and I enjoyed the creative process behind the helmets.

"I reckon they are two of the finest designs I have ever brought on track, and I am delighted to be auctioning one of them off for a good cause.

"The Australian Grand Prix marked the perfect occasion to bring to life not one, but two incredible helmet designs whilst raising funds for those in need together with the team’s official charity partner, Save the Children.”

Kildea said: “I was thrilled to paint two special helmets for Valtteri ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

"I am proud of my Aboriginal identity – and painting for me is a way of strengthening my connection to it. It’s been an honour to be working alongside Valtteri on this project, and I am looking forward to seeing “our” helmet hitting the track this weekend.

"I am passionate about making a real difference within the Aboriginal community, and I’m delighted that part of the funding from the auction will be used to support Koorie Academy Basketball, which provides cultural workshops and basketball clinics for Aboriginal youth.”

This unique partnership between Valtteri Bottas and Ricky Kildea showcases the incredible power of art, sports, and collaboration in supporting Indigenous communities and charitable causes. As the world Bottas, wearing his new helmet, race down the track, they'll witness not only an exceptional design but also the potential for change that lies within creative collaboration.
