James Vowles has officially began his role as Williams team principal ahead of the 2023 F1 season.

Taking to social media, the team welcomed the former Mercedes chief strategist. They wrote:

"Day 1 at Grove

"Welcoming our new Team Principal!"

It was announced earlier this year that Vowles would be leaving Mercedes as their chief strategist to take up the role as team principal for Williams. This came after former team chief Jost Capito stepped down from the role in late 2022.

Vowles brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport and has a successful track record behind him. The British engineer isn't the only new member of the Williams team for the 2023 season as they have also signed American driver Logan Sargeant who is ready to embark on his rookie F1 season.

The team will be looking to get back to their former glory with their new driver line-up and new partner Gulf which will be bringing them much closer to the cost cap.

Williams is one of the most historic teams on the grid. Frank Williams co-founded the team in 1977. They won 9 constructors' championships and 7 drivers' championships between 1980 and 1997.

Fans shared their excitement for Vowles' entry to the team. One fan commented:

"Congratulations on your new role, Mr Vowles! Can't wait to see what kind of team principal you will be."

Another fan responded:

"Team principal suits him"

Someone else wrote:

"Welcome and good luck. You’ll find the vast majority of fans are behind you."
