Draymond Green Leaves Converse for Nike

NBA All-Star Draymond Green is returning to Nike after three years with Converse.

There is always a lot to unpack from the maelstrom that is NBA Media Day. Everything from the wild hairstyles to the uniforms to the sneakers is heavily scrutinized by the media. However, one of the larger stories of the day flew under the radar.

According to Nick DePaula of ESPN, Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green has signed a new sneaker deal with Nike. Green had worn Nike throughout his first seven years in the NBA. After Green's first footwear contract expired in 2020, he agreed to a multi-year deal with Converse and became the face of the "G4" line.

Naturally, Green's switch from Converse to Nike can be confusing as the former is owned by the latter entity. However, Converse and Jordan Brand are part of the Nike family tree but operate from separate budgets and have their own employee teams.

So, what sneakers did Green decide to wear during his first official day back with the Swoosh? You guessed it: kicks from the signature line of LeBron James. Green wore the Nike LeBron NXXT Gen in the 'Wolf Grey' colorway.

Luckily for sneakerheads, the performance basketball shoes are still available online. Athletes and fans can choose between several styles of James' signature sneakers on the Nike website. Being friends with James and represented by Klutch Sports has already paid dividends for Green.

At 33 years old, Green is in the prime of his career with an impressive body of work. Four NBA Championships, four All-Star appearances, a Defensive Player of the Year, and numerous All-NBA team selections. All eyes are always on the Warriors and their demonstrative power forward, so it's safe to say Nike picked up another major win by retaining Green.
