Thanks to the rule changes and surplus of talent, the 2023 MLB season has been electric. Yet with all the intriguing storylines, one star is shining the brightest. Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz is must-watch television.

De La Cruz has become a national sensation since arriving at the show, thanks to his exciting playstyle and lovable personality. We recently detailed the rookie's footwear on and off the field, but now we know his current favorite sneakers.

Bat Boys Baseball recently shared an awesome Instagram video where they asked Reds players their favorite sneakers. De La Cruz's answers did not disappoint, as he is just as adept at recognizing quality sneakers as he is rounding the bases.

The first sneaker De La Cruz listed as his favorite was the Nike Dunk Low in the "Jackie Robinson" colorway. The shoes were released in July 2022 for $130 and quickly sold out online. The average resale price of the rare kicks is now $392 on the sneaker resale platform StockX.

The "Jackie Robinson" colorway features a light grey upper and royal blue leather overlays reminiscent of the Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms. Several nods to Robinson's historic career appear throughout the shoe. But one quote stands out above the rest.

"I'm not concerned with you liking or disliking me…All I ask is that you respect me as a human being," is printed all over the shoe. Although the old-school shoes are expensive, they are a must-have for baseball historians who are also sneakerheads.

Air Jordan 1 "J Balvin"

The second sneaker De La Cruz named as his favorite was the Air Jordan 1 High in the "J Balvin" colorway. The shoes were released in December 2020 for $190 and now have an average resale price of $414 on StockX.

Latin music sensation J Balvin debuted his new sneaker collaboration with Jordan Brand during his halftime performance at Super Bowl LIV, and the tie-dyed kicks quickly took on a life of their own.

De La Cruz told the interviewer, "They're old, but I like them." However, De La Cruz does not need to explain his footwear choices to us. The 21-year-old can do no wrong in our eyes, and we cannot wait to see what he wears on and off the field for the rest of his rookie season.
