Last night was a movie in Cincinnati. The Reds came back to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the bottom of the ninth inning, and that was not even the highlight of the game.

Reds third baseman Elly De La Cruz made his highly-anticipated MLB debut and did not disappoint. De La Cruz recorded a double and two walks while flashing his glove in the infield a few times.

De La Cruz is known for his speed, so naturally, all eyes were on his wheels before and during the game. Much to our surprise, the 21-year-old represented two different brands at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday night.

Before the game, De La Cruz took batting practice in Air Jordan sneakers. Despite his young age, the rookie is familiar with classic basketball shoes. De La Cruz wore the Air Jordan 13 in the 'Gym Red Flint Grey' colorway.

The Air Jordan 13 'Gym Red Flint Grey' was last released on May 1, 2021. The shoes had a retail price of $190 but now have an average resale price of $199 on the sneaker resale website StockX.

The old-school hoop shoes are definitely not designed for the baseball field, but there is no denying they look good with the Reds uniform. Plus, it is not uncommon for baseball players to warm up in basketball shoes. Aaron Judge has taken batting practice in Kobe Bryant and Luka Doncic's signature shoes.

Under Armour

During the game, De La Cruz ditched his Air Jordan sneakers for Under Armour cleats. This is the same model of cleats De La Cruz wore last July, except they were customized by Stadium Custom Kicks to look like a collaboration with the brand Off-White.

It is unclear if  De La Cruz has a footwear sponsor yet, but it is safe to assume there will be plenty of companies lining up with contract offers in the near future. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for all your sneaker coverage.
