Nike Nails Ad Campaign Celebrating Nikola Jokic

Nike highlights Nikola Jokic's personality in hilarious new ad campaign.
In this story:

No company on the planet can compete with the marketing prowess of Nike. The Beaverton-based brand always finds a way to strike the perfect tone in all of its ad campaigns.

Shortly after the Denver Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship on Monday night, Nike quickly rolled out a new campaign celebrating the unassuming star of the postseason - Nikola Jokic.

Before the confetti hit the floor in Denver, Nike published a video on its social media account that struck a perfect balance of humor and sincerity. Nike poked fun at Jokic's no-frills personality while highlighting his unlikely ascent to the top of the basketball world.

With Serbian music playing in the background, the message read, "So a Serbian guy walks into an arena. Wins an MVP. Wins another one. Helps lead his team to the Playoffs. Then the Finals. Wins a ring. Brings a city together. And everyone is happy. That's it. That's the punchline. No joke."

Despite Jokic's aversion to the spotlight, Nike continued to celebrate its star big man with billboards throughout the New York City skyline. The ticketing platform, Tickpick, posted a photograph of the billboards on Twitter which show the same closing image from the video.

Most fans know next to nothing about Jokic, and that's the way he likes it. However, the former second-round draft pick has been a Nike athlete since entering the league and has become the face of the brand's premiere shoe for post players.

Throughout the 2022-23 NBA season, Jokic played in the Nike Air Zoom G.T. Jump. The high-top basketball shoes are available in four colorways for $154-$180 in adult sizes on the Nike website.

Nike promotes the shoe as containing one of the brand's most responsive cushioning systems ever devised. The double-stacked Zoom Air units work in unison with an external jump frame. Meanwhile, the leno-weave upper provides added stability and lockdown.

Like Jokic, the Nike Air Zoom G.T. Jump is an underrated star. Other flashier models grab the headlines, but this shoe is capable of supporting the most powerful players on the court. Combine Nike's technology and marketing muscle with Jokic's game, and it truly is no joke.
