There is no better partnership in sports than Jordan Brand and the North Carolina Tar Heels. The iconic Jumpman logo always pops off the Carolina Blue uniforms and sneakers. However, the two teammates took a different approach for the kicks worn in Saturday's conference matchup against the Syracuse Orange.

The Tar Heels basketball team debuted a wild new colorway of Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic's second signature sneaker. The Jordan Luka 2 'Origin Story' pays tribute to North Carolina history and, in the process, might have just made sneaker history. Below is a detailed look at the hoop shoes and the story behind the outrageous colorway.

The North Carolina state nickname stems from pine sap getting stuck to the feet and shoes of workers in the turpentine industry. The bright yellow and green represent the sap, while there are needles featured on the Jumpman logo as well as on the UNC and Luka logos on the tongue to represent the needle-like leaves of a pine tree.

Unfortunately for fans and sneakerheads, this incredible colorway is a player-exclusive model that will not be released to the public. The silver lining is online shoppers can choose from several colorways of the Jordan Luka 2 in full-family sizing on the Nike website.

Thanks to Michael Jordan, the Tar Heels athletic department always sports the best apparel and sneakers that Jordan Brand has to offer. But Jumpman reached new heights with these sneakers and raised the bar for the rest of the NCAA. Stay locked into FanNationKicks.com for all your footwear news from the sports world.
