Brilliant Brighton Beat Arsenal To Effectively End Premier League Title Race
Arsenal's Premier League title bid is effectively over after Brighton & Hove Albion won handsomely at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan all scored as Brighton won 3-0.
The result did not flatter Brighton, who dominated the game against the Gunners.
Roberto De Zerbi's side had 59% of possession and recorded six shots on target, compared to Arsenal's two.
Arsenal's defeat came just hours after Manchester City had won 3-0 at Everton.
"Two more wins," manager Pep Guardiola told City fans after his team's victory at Goodison Park. That was what City needed to guarantee a third EPL title in a row.
But Arsenal's slip-up against Brighton means that City now need just one more win to seal the title.
In fact, City could be crowned as champions without winning another point.
If Arsenal lose at Nottingham Forest next Saturday it will be mathematically impossible for them to dethrone City.
City's next Premier League fixture is at home against Chelsea next Sunday.
Guardiola's side then go to Brighton three days later before visiting Brentford on the final day of the EPL season.
Brighton's win on Sunday strengthened their bid to secure European soccer for the first time in the club's history.
The Seagulls now sit sixth in the table, having played fewer games than all of their rivals.
