Manchester City lost in round three of the EFL Cup for the first time since 2012 as Newcastle progressed to the last 16 on Wednesday night.

Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the game at St. James' Park as Newcastle won 1-0 against City, who had been champions of this tournament in six of the previous 10 seasons.

Wednesday's victory came despite Magpies manager Eddie Howe making 10 changes to the starting XI that had begun Sunday's 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United.
