Piers Morgan is adamant that Arsenal would have ended this season as Premier League champions had they signed Cristiano Ronaldo in January.

Ronaldo was released from his Manchester United contract in November after criticizing the club in a television interview hosted by journalist Morgan.

The leading goalscorer in soccer history eventually signed for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, but Morgan has claimed that "he was keen" to join Arsenal.

Arsenal were top of the league when Ronaldo left the EPL but Manchester City have since seized control of the title race and could even lift the trophy later this week.

Morgan is an Arsenal supporter and, speaking two days after his team's 3-0 loss to Brighton, he tweeted: "Mock all you like, but if we'd signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season - as he was keen to do btw - we would have won the League.

"He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters."

Ronaldo has scored 12 goals in 13 Saudi Pro League matches since joining Al Nassr.

But Al Nassr look likely to miss out on the league title as rivals Al-Ittihad are currently five points above them with four rounds of fixtures remaining.
