Michael Keane Scores Last-Minute Wondergoal As Tottenham Blow Another Lead In Draw At Everton
Everton 1-1 Tottenham
Everton defender Michael Keane scored the best goal of his career to earn his side a point against Tottenham on Monday night.
Keane fired in a last-minute equalizer from long range to earn a 1-1 draw that lifted Everton out of the Premier League's relegation zone.
His stunning strike atoned for an earlier error that had led to Tottenham's goal.
Keane fouled Cristian Romero inside the penalty area, before Harry Kane converted the resulting spot-kick in the 68th minute.
Everton had been reduced to 10 men 10 minutes before they fell behind when midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure was shown a straight red card for hitting Kane.
Spurs also ended the game one man down as Lucas Moura was sent off for an awful challenge on Keane moments before his goal.
Same Old Tottenham
This was the second game in a row in which Tottenham had failed to win after going in front.
Spurs had led 3-1 at Southampton in their previous match, only to draw 3-3.
That draw with Southampton proved to be Antonio Conte's final match in charge but Cristian Stellini appeared to have learned nothing from the mistakes of his predecessor.
Having gone 1-0 up against an inferior team containing fewer players, most managers would urge their side to keep the ball, play high up the pitch and kill the game with a second goal if and when the chance presented itself.
But just as had been their approach under Conte, Stellini's Spurs instead sat deep, challenging their opponents to break down their packed defense.Â
That defense could easily have conceded another goal after Keane's spectacular leveler.
