Casemiro was sent off for violent conduct during Manchester United's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 30-year-old saw red in the 70th minute after appearing to grab Palace midfielder Will Hughes around the neck.

Casemiro now faces a three-game ban, which is the standard punishment in English soccer when a red card has been issued for violent conduct.

But new video footage has emerged to suggest that the clash between Casemiro and Hughes was perhaps not quite as violent as it first appeared.

A video taken by a fan sat near the pitch at Old Trafford shows that Casemiro and Hughes were actually hugging and smiling at each other shortly after their altercation.

Multiple United fans on Twitter have even claimed that they believe that Casemiro's behavior had not been intended as an act of aggression, but rather that he had been trying to protect Hughes from the brawl going on around them.

United may decide to appeal against Casemiro's suspension but they are unlikely to succeed in getting it overturned.

Assuming Casemiro is made to serve his ban in full, he will miss both of United's games against Leeds next week, as well as the home match with Leicester on February 19.
