Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Goncalves stunned the Emirates Stadium during Thursday's Europa League round of 16 second leg by scoring an outrageous goal from close to the halfway line.

Goncalves netted his 16th goal of the season in remarkable style as he launched a rocket over the head of Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale from 46 yards.

The goal arrived 62 minutes into the game and leveled the score at 3-3 on aggregate after Granit Xhaka had earlier fired Arsenal 1-0 up on the night, a week on from a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Portugal.

In the immediate aftermath of Sporting's spectacular equalizer, Arsenal players gathered in a huddle as Xhaka urged his teammates not to let the goal rock them.

The game then went to extra time and eventually penalties.

Sporting won the shootout 5-3 to progress to the quarter-finals.
