Going into training camp, there were still questions about whether the Arlington Renegades would have their leading receiver back on the team. The good news is that there is no need to be concerned about that anymore.

On Sunday, the league announced multiple signings, with one of the biggest being a return to Arlington by tight end Sal Cannella.

Last year was the best season of Cannella’s professional career with the Renegades. He hauled in 42 passes for 415 yards, both of which were team-highs, and his lone touchdown was a 41-yarder to open the XFL Championship game. Cannella had four catches for 71 yards in the victory.

Cannella is no stranger to the USFL, as he played for the New Orleans Breakers in 2022 and posted 34 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He was named to the All-USFL team.

Both spring league opportunities got him signed to the NFL, where he first played for the Green Bay Packers and then the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. He also had a stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2021.

The tight end room is not especially filled up, with Austin Allen, Seth Green and Jared Scott making up the depth. Cannella will no doubt be a starter on the team as he built a good rapport with quarterback Luis Perez quickly late in the year. Arlington’s offense improved with the move, taking pressure off the wide receivers and giving Perez his security blanket in the passing game.
