PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan played a huge part in the stunning Tuesday move that is bringing the PGA Tour and LIV Golf together in an attempt to unify the men’s professional golf world.
Now, he’s busy showing everyone just how bad he can be at his job and how awful he can be at answering questions that he knows need to be asked.
The latest example of that came Wednesday during an appearance on the Golf Channel when he was asked for his reaction to the 9/11 Families United saying they felt betrayed by Monahan, who used the group last year to bash players who were leaving for LIV Golf.
Here was his pitiful response:

That was a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing. One would think he might be prepared to answer that question considering everyone knew it would—and should—be asked, but that was not the case. At all.
Golf fans rightfully crushed him:
Struggling to wrap my head around just how pitiful this was, even by Jay standards.

Setting aside any strategy/moves/deals, just looking at PR perspective: this is disastrous. There will be case studies written about how bad the tour’s crisis comms have been over the last 3 yrs. https://t.co/t8XU08nSBz

1. Bad
2. Exactly what happens when there *is* no good answer to a question.
They completely brought this on themselves by bringing the 9/11 families into this a year ago.
Still stunning to see Jay this unprepared to answer a question he had to know was coming. https://t.co/olBib7skjk
My god. I didn't expect him to have a good answer here but this is just painful to hear him stumble through.

Obviously he was going to get asked this....The fact he didn't have anything here and just stumbled through this is absolutely bewildering. https://t.co/wIYlB1WnnR
He’s got no answer to the question. That’s where his huge mistake was—taking such a hardline/moral stance on a business issue. When you do that you tie your hands. Go back on it and you look like a massive hypocrite. They got some businessmen in the room and everything changed. https://t.co/Nyedmgvs8d

Hoo boy, this is bad https://t.co/1OdCYitgf1

What a terrible answer and he didn’t even address the question

Zero way this dude should keep his job https://t.co/8p2FjHYZdl
The first rule of PR is always put someone on live TV totally unprepared to answer a question you know is going to be asked. https://t.co/zgKs8TFgxs

Jay Monahan has really shown himself to be a spineless coward with how this all went down. Making secret MASSIVE decisions without notifying any players, allying with the people he publicly criticized. And then this sad sap routine afterwards. Pathetic leadership. https://t.co/vATV3W74Pw

All of Monahan’s PR/Comms people must’ve quit since yesterday morning.
— Greyson Holle (@GreysonHolle) June 7, 2023
How can he possibly not have a scripted and memorized answer to this question by now? Insane! https://t.co/JhDGDTG2lz
One of the most craven responses I've ever seen. I'm sure the phrase, "I let confidentiality prevail," will certainly fix everything here. Monahan needs to be out yesterday. https://t.co/4eKZSzUNeG

Every dime of Monahan’s salary should go to 9/11 families https://t.co/grEtZOUVeB
