Rose Zhang Announces She’s Turning Pro With Emotional Instagram Post
Rose Zhang, the No. 1 amateur in the world, intends to turn professional next week at the LPGA’s Mizuho Americas Open, following one of the greatest amateur careers in women’s golf history.
Zhang made the announcement after the completion of her sophomore season at Stanford, where she won 12 individual titles, surpassing a record shared by Tiger Woods.
Zhang, who turned 20 just days ago, shared her decision on Instagram on Friday morning, when she also announced her summer schedule as an LPGA pro.
Zhang will be teeing it up in all four remaining women’s major championships. Both the AIG Women’s British Open and the U.S. Women’s Open have extended Zhang special exemptions.
“The endless love, support and inspiration from so many people brought me to this point of my golf career. From my teammates to my coaches and trainers, to my friends and family — you have all been integral in my journey, shaping me as a person and player while making sacrifices for my success. You have made it possible for me to pursue my dreams,” Zhang wrote.
Zhang also announced she will continue her Stanford education during her professional career and plans to eventually earn her degree.
“Stanford is truly a special place with special people. I would never take these incredible memories and experience for granted. With that in mind, while I am pursuing my professional career, I will continue to earn my degree in the years to come. Stanford fam forever” Zhang said.
Last week, Zhang captured her second consecutive NCAA individual title at Grayhawk Golf Club. She is the only player in NCAA Division I women’s golf history to do so.
