SURREY, England — Robert MacIntyre survived four rounds of the BMW PGA Championship and next up will be a trip to France and then the biggest stage in his career, the 49th Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf Club outside of Rome.

In five visits to the West course at the Wentworth Club, the man from Oban, Scotland, has never finished better that T28, which occurred on his maiden voyage in 2019.

He was T45 this week, but after a week off the 27-year-old made the cut as part of his lead-up to Rome.

MacIntyre is the only member of the European Team playing next week at the Cazoo Open with many resting before the big week, but in MacIntyre's case he needs to play himself into shape and his first weeks back after a layoff have not been his best.

“If you look at all my wins on tour, they've come after a run of events,” MacIntyre said Sunday after a 2-under 70 in a constant rain for the latter half of his round. “So, I mean, everything is to prepare for the Ryder Cup now when there's a couple events prior to that, so I thought, well, that's what we'll do.”

MacIntyre missed the Irish Open last week after an emotional four rounds in Switzerland where he needed to make the cut to get as close to possible of assuring the sixth spot on European captain Luke Donald’s team, which he did with a T55 finish.

The two-time winner on the DP World Tour knew that a week on and a week off would not suit how he plays, so now he will go into France and play on the 2018 Ryder Cup venue Le Golf National, where the Scot finished T8 last year.

“I didn't really want week off, week on, week off, I've done that in the past and it doesn't work for me,” MacIntyre said. “So, it's just to try and build momentum and to try to win the Ryder Cup.”
